The Sacramento Valley Detecting Buffs (SVDB) Club, established since 1987, is
the metal detecting social club for the Sacramento Valley of California. Its members represent a wide range of interests, including relic hunting, coin shooting, jewelry hunting, and gold prospecting. As a public service, club members regularly clean up trash and found hazardous objects from schools, parks, and other locations during hunts. We are a "not-for-profit" social club and we welcome new members. Join us and find lots of support from the club as you learn about this exciting social activity!

In August 1982, the first meeting was held at the Fair Oaks Library meeting room with approximately eight people in attendance. September 1982 the second meeting was held with approximately 12 people present. This was the official beginning of the club. Officers were selected and the meeting date was set for the first Wednesday of every month. The initials from the 1909 S VDB penny were used to develop the name Sacramento Valley Detecting Buffs.
The club grew slowly but steadily over the following months with Don Medaris of the Sacramento Coin Exchange providing door prizes and assistance. Six of the founding members were Ed and Betty Murarik, Guy and Bobbie Shreve, Dick and Reta Carle. Early in 1985, the other metal detecting Clubs in our area, The Nugget Nudger, disbanded and their members joined SVDB. When the club by-laws and Constitution were written in 1986 we realized what a diverse group we were, so all types of treasure hunters were included. In 1989 the Mining Research club disbanded and many of its members joined SVDB. We continue to look for ways to contribute to our community.
Several of our members have assisted local law enforcement agencies in searching crime scenes. We are a member of the California Federation of Mineralogists Societies (CFMS). This enables us to carry liability insurance to protect the club should we do any property damage during a club hunt or outing. The Sacramento Valley Detecting Buffs welcomes you to join our club and hope you will gain more knowledge and appreciation for metal detecting from your membership. We also hope you will share your talents and experience with our members.

SVDB member Scott Newens recovered this lost gold wedding band!
Scott was contacted from a man stating his wife had lost a gold wedding band in their front yard. They had been looking for it for some time but without any luck.
Scott arrived at their home in about ten minutes ready to help! The grass was thick but Scott was able to find the ring in about two minutes. The couple was quite happy, relieved and grateful.
If you have lost an item of value and would like help from the club to recover it, our members may be able to find it. We have recovered many treasured items for persons in our community.

We had nearly 40 attendees (members and visitors) at our monthly June meeting. A big thanks to all who made this event fun.
